In this session, I spent some time experimenting with the @sandflail and finishing with some 100-meter sprints at 75-80% of top speed.

The sandflail is a unique tool, and I’m finding various ways to apply it. Here, I wanted to explore forward and lateral movement from a rotational aspect while maintaining a fluid spine. These are essential aspects of building and maintaining athleticism for all sports and real-world application.

I’m discovering how much the sandlail trains grip strength, something also very important for health and is beneficial for a variety of real world scenarios. Grip strength has been a topic of interest in longevity and exercise science. Research from the University of Michigan” linked low grip strength weakness to accelerated DNA aging.

Grip strength may serve as a biomarker for biological age.”

I envision a scenario where neurons are firing in all directions during movements that engage grip strength, rotational power, core stability, spinal flexibility, lunging, lateral movement, and forward locomotion, all happening simultaneously”

“Trying out these new @sandflail bags. Filled mine with pea gravel for better drainage. Don’t know how heavy they are. Don’t care. Grip smoke fest. Dig em so far”

“It’s just a bag of sand…right???

Nah

This tool has provided me countless hours worth of movement joy and swinging fun. The @sandflail is double stitched, double layered and handmade in Scotland. It holds either sand or steel shot, and like a Pararope (rope mace), it’s essentially all slack, so you’ve gotta keep high tension throughout in order to keep the flow going

I have this one loaded up with over 16lbs of sand and it swings like a champ. You can also fold in the “handle” so that it’s shorter or longer based on your preference

Tools like this remind me that:

1. Some of the best things in life are free (or almost free). The sandflail is an awesome value and it’s its own “Gym in a bag”

2. Simpler is often better. You don’t need complicated tools to build strength, increase ROM, and have fun. You may just need a bag of sand :)

This is NOT a paid advertisement, but I love good people that make awesome products and @andrewkellyart has made a special one here. Visit @sandflail and get yours today”

“One piece of kit that will always and forever be in my luggage is the @sandflail packing smaller than a wallet. I can literally take it anywhere. It’s so versatile. Take a hike to an awesome location. Then still have the freedom to get a workout in”

“This has actually been massive for me because I can grade it so easily and get some arm work and gentle core in as I’ve been rebuilding. definitely worth mentioning as a review that it’s versatility and easy of weight change/portability is super useful in rehabilitation”

‘David Tausz’ - S&C Coach

“The Sandflail is the perfect conditioning tool for any grappler. It’s a workout for your whole body able to combine the best of sandbags, kettlebells & mace in one. It’s easy to carry. When unfilled the Sandflail is hardly bigger than a phone and fits in my kit bag for travelling. The design makes it perfect for working out on the mats without fear of damaging them, unlike kettlebells. For grapplers, the Sandflail, similar to heavy clubs and maces, is one of the best ways I’ve found to develop my grip endurance and prehab wrists, elbows and shoulders to keep me on the mats. But most of all, the workouts with a Sandflail compliment grappling and let you get creative”

Ready for 2 weeks in Portugal. Just fill it at the beach and away we go. Is there any other piece of resistance equipment that's so transportable? I don't think so. #Sandflail: doing for workouts what Kindle did for books.

“Thankyou …exceeded all expectations… it’s awesome. Playing around with some different handle options. Got sand and rice media at the moment with some reusable vegetable bags to make swapping easier…. Got a cheap battle rope I’m making some other bits with…. So it’s getting a length of battle rope as a handle. Thanks for an awesome service and a new favourite. Thankyou”

Received my 9’’ Sandflail about a week ago.
What a great piece of kit. It took a few days to get the hang of it but feeling a bit more comfortable with it now. I’m only using 6kg but the torque compared to a traditional mace is crazy. The speed at which you can work really pushes the heart rate giving a great cardio workout. Fantastically simple design (although I know you have put great effort into making it to what it is) and easy to ship around the world. Congratulations on an amazing idea from someone who has brought a product to market from scratch, many years ago now but I understand and salute you. Really looking forward to what you come up with next.

Cheers mate
